Getting Help

I have been struggling with my weight, even more so, since I retired a few years ago. After speaking with my gp, I made the decision to get professional help. My goal is to change my relationship with food. For the better.

I have seen people struggle to quit smoking or other problematic habits, and I feel one of the big differences between those habits and poor eating is that I have to eat to live. That's how it gets you. There's no way around avoiding food forever.

My updates will appear here. I'm not going to use stomach surgery because I feel that I will still eat the wrong foods, just tiny portions of them.

My goal is to eat healthy and have a positive mental attitude about the new way that food and I are going to move forward.

Still gaining momentum and added another set of ten.

Good going

Leg Lifts

Still managing to do the leg lifts at least five days out of seven. I am here to report that as small as that change has been, I am noticing a positive difference in my thigh strength!!

So I was embarrassed at my tiny exercises, but a little is proving to be better than none.

I want to encourage everyone to try a little positive something rather than zero of nothing.

ADDED SOMETHING SIMPLE

Morning or evening leg lifts. Just three sets of ten while laying on the bed. Something is much better than nothing!

The Treadmill

So I finally did use the treadmill again after many years of avoidance. Five minutes, and I used my tablet to read a Kindle book to help me not agonise over when the five minutes would time out. I found that it wasn't terrible!! My sister has been using her treadmill and suggested only adding an additional five minutes after a full week of walking.

It wasn't terrible 😃

Hi everyone! I’m happy to be here and excited to connect with others who are focusing on health and wellness after 50.

I’m looking forward to learning, sharing, and supporting each other along the way.

To get to know one another a little better, here’s a question to start us off:

👉 What’s one small habit you’ve added (or want to add) to your routine that’s made a positive difference in your health?

No pressure — share only if you feel comfortable. Looking forward to the conversation!

New Developments!!

I have not been able to get any gas behind working out alone. But I have a new development, actually two. My mom has decided to start walking with me inside the local Walmart and my husband set up our treadmill in the garage. The treadmill was recently retrieved from another state and we had to find a place for it and put it back together.

It's hard to motivate yourself to workout alone (even to go to the gym), that's why I have decided to stay at the rehab facility where I did my cardiac rehab after me heart attack. I like the fact that the physical therapists hold me accountable to show up trice a week which only leaves one day that I'm alone in my exercise.

The Zoo Trip

Saturday, we had a family trip to the Columbus Zoo. I haven't started my regular workouts and was thinking all the walking would be beneficial. Six plus hours at the zoo. Two days of aches and pains. I can not continue to do this to myself. If I do not make exercise a normal part of my life, I'm going to miss out on some of the fun parts of life.

When the aches are gone, that's my new start point. I have some gentle starting moves. Easy beginner exercises. No impact. Easy on the knees. Stay tuned for my updates!!
