How Project Management Coaching Builds Confident Leaders

Being a first-time manager or front-line project leader is one of the hardest jobs out there.

You’re no longer just responsible for your own work, you’re in charge of guiding others, managing personalities, meeting deadlines, and solving problems that nobody warned you about. It’s overwhelming, especially if you weren’t given training or a roadmap. That’s why this blog exists.

Welcome to the Project Management Coaching Blog from Surviving Life Lessons, where we focus on helping new managers, supervisors, and business owners learn how to lead with confidence using real-world strategies. Here, we break down the complicated world of project management into practical tools and advice based on proven methods like those from PMI (Project Management Institute), Lean, and SAFe Agile—but written in a way that’s clear, human, and actionable.

Whether you run a small business, lead a team in a government office, or supervise people on a construction site, this blog is here to give you what every new leader needs: support, clarity, and coaching that works.

What You’ll Find in This Blog

This is not another dry business blog full of jargon and theory. This is for people who need help now.

You’ll find:

  • Step-by-step coaching guides on dealing with real workplace issues

  • Practical tools for communication, planning, scope control, risk, and team morale

  • Breakdowns of PMI principles and how they apply to everyday management

  • Tips for managing people, not just tasks because projects fail when people aren’t supported

  • Situational insights from industries like tech, construction, government, and healthcare

We’ll cover everything from:

  • How to set up your first project plan using a PMI-style framework

  • What to do when a team member constantly misses deadlines

  • How to communicate expectations clearly without sounding harsh

  • What “scope creep” really looks like in small businesses

  • Managing up when your own boss causes delays

  • Handling change requests using Agile without losing control

If it affects people and projects, we’ll talk about it.

Who This Blog Is For

This space is designed for:

  • New project managers who feel like they’re figuring it out as they go

  • First-line supervisors promoted for performance but not trained to lead

  • Business owners who are great at what they do but struggle to organize teams

  • Veterans entering civilian project roles who want to apply leadership in new ways

  • Anyone in charge of people and deliverables

You don’t have to be certified in PMP or Agile—but we’ll show you how to start thinking like someone who is.

Why You Should Trust This Blog

My name is Debbie. I’m a Navy veteran, MBA holder, cancer survivor, and a seasoned business leader who has worked in almost every type of setting from small startups to legal firms, from military projects to large-scale government operations. I’ve built teams, led projects, and seen what happens when good people are thrown into management without the support they need.

I started Surviving Life Lessons to help others because life and leadership don’t come with instruction manuals. Over the years, I’ve learned how to turn survival into strategy, chaos into calm, and stress into systems. And I want to pass that on.

Why Project Management Coaching Matters

A lot of leadership blogs forget the basics. They teach systems and software but not how to handle that one employee who shuts down in meetings, or the client who changes their mind every other day.

Leadership is personal. Projects fail or succeed based on how well you manage people, expectations, and time.

This blog teaches:

  • Project thinking for people who lead people

  • Management techniques that stick even when you’re overwhelmed

  • Lessons you can actually use tomorrow at work

And you don’t need a full MBA to get the value though I’ve been through one, so I’ll pull the best insights out for you.

How to Use This Blog

Each post will be a standalone coaching session, focusing on one real-life challenge or concept.
