Fall Festivals and Free Joy for Families
Fall festivals hold a special place in my heart, not just because they’re full of games, hayrides, and candy, but because of the memories they bring back from when my kids were little. Financially, our family had struggled, but that never stopped us from making the most of the fall. In fact, fall festival season became one of the best times of the year for us.
We’d search out church festivals starting at the end of September and plan our weekends all the way through early November. Some were during the day, others at night, and every one of them was free, fun, and full of excitement for the kids.
I didn’t just have my own children with me. I also watched a single mom’s kids, and they were like my own. So picture me with six kids, loading them up for every fall fest we could find. They were thrilled every time running from game to game, devouring hot dogs and cotton candy, climbing the rock walls like little daredevils.
They always came home with bags full of candy, like little champions showing off their trophies. And at every single festival, at least one of them won a cake. It was always a kind I didn’t like… and I’m pretty sure they planned it that way.
But what I loved most was hearing them laugh, seeing their faces light up, and listening to them talk over each other in the car on the way home, telling me every little detail of their night.
Those are the memories that inspired this poem — not just the fun of fall festivals, but the joy of making something special out of nothing. It’s proof that even with little money, you can still give your kids a season full of magic, laughter, and sweet, sticky memories.
Fall Festivals
Exciting events come in the fall.
Fall festivals are enjoyed by all.
There's so much fun under the sun.
Fall festivals are so much fun.
Cotton candy, hot dogs, and more.
So much food you'd want to explore.
There are so many games to be won.
Fall festivals are so much fun.
Hayrides, ponies, and a petting zoo.
Wow, there is so much you can do!
It is sad when the night is done.
Fall festivals are so much fun.

Reflection on My Fall Festivals Poem
This poem celebrates the joy of fall and all the simple fun that comes with the season.
Fall festivals pop up everywhere: at schools, churches, farms, and small towns. And they bring something magical: games, hayrides, food, laughter, and memories that stick.
And the best part? A lot of them are free or super low-cost, which is perfect for families or someone who just wants to get outside and do something fun.
When my kids were younger (and money was tight), we would plan out every church fall festival we could find. Some were daytime fun with petting zoos and pumpkin patches. Others lit up the night with music, candy, and cakewalks. We didn’t have much, but those festivals gave us everything: joy, connection, and a season packed with memories.
This poem is a reminder to soak up the season not just with festivals, but with all the simple things too:
Rake up leaves and then jump in them.
Walk through a pumpkin patch.
Sit on a hay bale and eat something warm.
Grab a pumpkin, carve it, and roast the seeds.
Bundle up, take a walk, and breathe in that crisp fall air.
Grab a cup of warm apple cider and just take a slow sniff
Whether you’re going out with kids, friends, or just yourself, take the time to enjoy fall’s little moments. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to cost a thing. Just get outside, make memories, and hold on to the joy while it lasts.
Make a memory.
It might become someone’s favorite one day.
