A Moment from Childhood, Captured in a Poem
This poem came from a quiet moment at the doctor’s office with my son Chris, who was around 9 years old. We were both getting bored, and instead of screens (which weren’t around then), I had a poetry book and paper. We turned a waiting room into a poetry challenge. I chose the poem style. He chose the topics, and we each had to write a poem in this mirrored style before his name was called. Chris won the game. I came out with a memory that I treasure.
At Surviving Life Lessons, we celebrate these small, meaningful moments. Poetry has a way of capturing life’s fleeting experiences, preserving them in words that last far longer than the moment itself.
You can explore this poem and many more in our Blog Series Catalog, where every entry is a reflection on life, growth, and connection—perfect for anyone looking to find the beauty in everyday experiences.

Reflection on My Class Poem
Writing my Class Poem was both a creative break and a sweet bonding moment with my son. He always had an imagination and intelligence. It was fun to play these kinds of games with him. If it were today, it wouldn't be the same. The screens have taken over. It's hard to get people to converse at the same table. Look around the restaurant. I still smile when I read this poem. It's special to me.
This poem captures how a child sees education in layers—from the ringing bell to the hope of a successful future. It reminds me how quickly kids grow and how small moments like this can stick with us for a lifetime.

This poem beautifully captures the simple joy of learning and connection between parent and child. The mirrored structure feels playful yet meaningful, much like the early classroom memories we all carry. It reminds me how a nurturing place like a Christian Academy can turn small, everyday moments into lasting lessons that shape character and faith alongside education.
What a lovely reflection on childhood moments and the power of poetry! Creating meaningful connections during such simple times is truly special. As an Online math and science tutor in Toronto, ON, I believe nurturing curiosity early on helps build a strong foundation for future success. Cherish these moments—they shape bright, confident minds!
