Out of Bed Poem– Finding Strength After Pain

When It Hurts to Even Breathe… But You Get Up Anyway
Out of Bed may be one of the shortest poems I’ve written, but it came from one of the hardest places I’ve ever been.
This poem wasn’t born from a single heartbreak; it was written from those mornings after life knocks the wind out of you. The kind of pain that makes it hard to breathe, hard to think, hard to move.
But there’s this moment… when you decide, “I will not let yesterday win.” And you pull yourself out of the sheets, feet on the ground, aching but determined. That’s what this poem is about. It’s not polished, it’s not pretty, but it’s real.
And it’s brave.
Out of Bed
Today, I have decided to stop having pity parties.
I got out of bed.
I took a shower and got dressed.
I went out the door.
I faced today.
I refused to be held back by yesterday.

Reflection on Facing the Day When You Don’t Want To
If you've ever had that kind of day—the one where just getting dressed feels like climbing a mountain, this poem is for you.
It’s for the woman sitting on the edge of her bed staring into space. It’s for the man who drags himself into the shower because he knows staying in bed will only make the ache worse. It’s for the friend who’s smiling in public and screaming in private.
This one is about facing tomorrow when life hits you really, really hard. The hard where it hurts to breathe. You mentally can't focus on anything. Where you just want to curl up on the bed and never open your eyes, where you just don't want to face the pain of the world outside your bedroom doors. But you pull together every ounce of determination to get out of bed and face the world outside your doors.
You may not feel strong today. But getting up is strength. Even small actions are victories. Even surviving is a win.
If all you did today was get out of bed—you’re already amazing..
