The Joy That Makes Your Heart Dance
This poem is about my great niece Cassady a girl who radiates joy and energy everywhere she goes. From the moment she could walk, she danced. I remember visiting and she’d turn on music and just sing and twirl, carefree and full of life.
One year, we went camping and I watched her out in the open field. She twirled and ran and laughed with no care in the world. It was like watching sunshine in motion. And honestly, it made my heart dance.
As adults, we forget to just move to dance in the field, to laugh without guilt, to throw our arms open and just be present. We get too wrapped up in responsibilities, appearances, and what others might think. But what if we gave ourselves a little room to be free again?
Dancing in the Field
She twirls with the wind
In fields wide and free
Laughing so loud
Her joy calls to me
Her arms open wide
Like wings made of light
Her hair catches sunbeams
Her spirit takes flight
No music, no rules
Just rhythm and air
Spinning and skipping
Like no one is there
The world stands still
While she dances through
A reminder that freedom
Still lives in me too

Reflection on Dancing in the Field Poem
Watching Cassady dance reminded me of something I had forgotten how good it feels to let go and just move.
Not for exercise. Not for attention. Just to feel the air. The sun. The moment.
Children have a gift for that.
They don’t need permission to feel joy.
They don’t worry about what others think.
They just do what feels fun and honest and real.
This poem is a little nudge to the rest of us go out in nature, take off the mental weight of the day, and move like no one’s watching.
Twirling in a field might not solve all your problems, but it might just remind you that joy still lives inside you.
