Practice, Teamwork, and Growing with Every Game
This poem was inspired by my great-nephew, Carson. He’s one of those kids who gives his heart to everything he doe,s and basketball is no exception. He has a warm personality, a kind spirit, and a true love of the game.
In our family, sports are more than just a game.
They’re about showing up for your team, even when you’re tired.
They’re about learning to lose gracefully and win humbly.
They’re about falling, getting up, and trying again.
Carson reminds me that kids don’t just play they grow.
Every game, every practice, every pass builds character and pride.
Basketball Teamwork
Starting whistle blows
Who's gonna win no one knows
Carson loves this sport
He feels at home on the court
With his team, he works well
The way they move you can tell
The dribbling ball
Sets the rhythm for them all
Partnered with the opposing team
The dance is harder than it seems
Pass, dribble, dribble, pivots and turn
Dribble, dribble, the pass is returned
Fancy footwork across the floor
Fans shout and roar
Dribble, Dribble, Throws
Dribble, dribble, off it goes
Thunk, now it’s a rebound
Someone swats it down
Partners glide across the floor
Dribble, Dribble some more
As time comes to a draw
Carson gets the ball
He is nimble and quick
His footwork is slick
Minutes until the end
A jump shot to swish it in
He made the final score
For a win, the crowd began to roar
Basketball is always fun
Especially when his team won.

Reflection on Dancing in the Field Poem
Basketball isn’t just about scoring points it’s about learning what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. Kids like Carson are out there practicing even when they’re tired, showing up for teammates, and learning to handle both wins and losses.
In this poem, you can feel the rhythm of the game. The “dribble, dribble” beat. The movement. The decision-making. The joy.
When children play sports, they’re learning:
How to work together
How to listen and respond
How to stay focused under pressure
And most importantly, how to support one another
This poem celebrates effort, not just the scoreboard. It honors the kids who grow into responsible teammates and the families who cheer them on from the stands.
