The Power of Perspective
I’ve learned that two people can live through the same storm and come out with two completely different stories. The difference isn’t what happened, it’s how they saw it.
Perspective is powerful. It can turn pain into purpose, problems into lessons, and endings into new beginnings. It’s the bridge between bitterness and peace, and it’s what helped me stop asking “Why me?” and start asking “What now?”

Seeing Beyond the Storm
When I was in the thick of my divorce, it was easy to see only the loss, the broken dreams, the lies, the betrayal. It felt like everything I built had crumbled into dust. I remember sitting at my kitchen table, staring at bills and papers, and thinking, This isn’t fair.
But over time, God started changing my view.
That storm, the one that nearly broke me, also pushed me to become stronger than I ever imagined. It taught me how to manage my finances, trust my instincts, and rely on faith instead of fear.
At first, I couldn’t see the lesson through the tears, but once the clouds started to lift, I realized that pain had been preparing me for the next chapter of my life.
Perspective doesn’t always come instantly. Sometimes it takes distance, healing, and a little hindsight.
When Cancer Changed My View
My cancer journey gave me a whole new understanding of what truly matters. Before that diagnosis, I was always running, working full-time, raising kids, volunteering, keeping the house together.
Afterward, everything slowed down. Suddenly, I noticed how beautiful a quiet morning was. I found joy in sitting on my deck listening to the bugs at night, or laughing with my grandchildren.
I realized that life isn’t measured by how much we get done, it’s measured by the moments that make us feel alive.
Perspective is what turns “I have to” into “I get to.”
I don’t have to go through hard times, I get to grow through them. I don’t have to keep going, I get to keep living. That shift changes everything.
How Faith Shapes Perspective
Faith is what gives me the ability to see light even in dark places.
When I stopped trying to understand every “why” and started trusting God’s “because,” I found peace. I began to see that the hard seasons weren’t punishment, they were preparation.
God never wasted a moment of my pain. Every trial gave me empathy for someone else, wisdom I could share, and strength I didn’t know I had.
Faith doesn’t change what happens to us, it changes how we see it.
Choosing to Look for the Good
Perspective isn’t pretending everything is fine. It’s acknowledging the hurt while still believing something beautiful can grow from it.
I’ve had my share of rough days, the kind where the last thing you want to do is smile. But even then, I remind myself: there’s still something good here if I look for it.
Maybe it’s a kind word from a stranger. Maybe it’s just the fact that I woke up and have another chance to make today better than yesterday.
When you start looking for the good, you’ll find more of it, because what you focus on grows.
What You Can Try Today
List three things that went right today. Start small, even coffee counts.
Reframe one challenge. Ask, “What might I learn from this?”
Pause before reacting. Sometimes peace comes from silence.
Write a letter to your past self. Thank her for getting you this far.
Look for blessings in disguise. Some of your worst days lead to your best.
Ask God to help you see the lesson. Wisdom comes through surrender.
Spend time with people who lift your view. Negative company clouds perspective.
Practice gratitude before bed. End your day on what’s right, not what’s wrong.
Smile at the small stuff. It’s often the little joys that heal the most.
Repeat this truth: My peace depends on my perspective, not my problems.
Seeing Life Through a New Lens
The storms haven’t stopped coming, but my view of them has changed.
Now, when life throws me a curveball, I pause and ask, “What is this teaching me?” instead of “Why is this happening to me?”
That one question has turned setbacks into strength and fear into faith.
Perspective is what allows you to find beauty in broken places and peace in uncertain ones. It’s what helps you bend without breaking, because even when everything around you changes, how you see it determines how you’ll survive it.
The view might shift, but the goal remains the same: to keep growing, keep learning, and keep living with gratitude, no matter what.
